If you’re the kind of person who needs to have the television on in the background while attempting to be productive, but get far too distracted to actually get anything done, Disney+ has a series that’s practically ASMR and will solve all of your problems.
Described as a “mindfulness soundscape experience,” Zenimation is the streaming platform’s series that simultaneously calms you down while paying tribute to some of the most iconic scenes from Walt Disney Animation Studios. Using the most relaxing content from classics such as Bambi as well as newer, instant-favorites like Raya and the Last Dragon, the anthology series celebrates the work of Disney’s visual and sound artists from over the last eight decades. Even taking a deep breath while watching the 30 second official trailer will transport you to an ultra-relaxing headspace.
Disney+ dropped the first 10 episodes — which run anywhere from five to eight minutes — back in 2020. Following the success of the first season, the creators decided to step things up for season two, which is available to stream as of June 11.
“We were blown away by the response to the first season and wanted to make certain season two both captured and expanded upon what audiences enjoyed,” teased creator David Bess in a statement. “We had previously only used those titles in which we had the ‘audio stems,’ which is to say those titles where the sound was mixed in a way where we could separate the sound effects from the dialogue and music. For season two, our incredible sound designer, Shannon Mills, not only enhanced the existing sound design in the films, just as he did for the first season, but often had to recreate it from scratch, for the older titles like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”
In both seasons, each episode centers around a theme (which range from abstract concepts like “everyday comforts” to more tangible topics such as “rain”) and combines content from a number of different movies. For example, an episode dedicated to kindness features characters Moana, Aladdin, Vanellope and Baymax. Basically, there’s something for every kind of Disney fan in each and every installment.
