Let’s face it; mornings can be hectic and breakfast doesn’t always happen. But, breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day. If you’re trying to lead a healthy lifestyle, you may be looking for ways to include a nutritious breakfast into your morning routine. But, it can sometimes be easier said than done.
If you’re stuck for healthy breakfast ideas to kick-start your morning, we have some of our favourites listed below.
This breakfast is basic and can be made by almost everyone. It is simple, yet filling, nutritious and very tasty. All you need is a ripe avocado and some bread of your choosing. You can use any bread suitable for your dietary requirements. Give two slices of bread some time in the toaster. While waiting, cut the avocado in half lengthways and remove the seed inside. Scoop out the avocado with a large spoon and when your toast is ready, smooth the avocado onto the toast. Season the toast with a bit of salt and pepper.
If you want to add a bit more flavour, a squeeze of fresh lemon juice goes down a treat. If you have more time on your hands, you can also add crumbled feta and sliced radish to your toast for a little something extra. This breakfast gives you a good amount of healthy fats to your day and tastes amazing. If it is the weekend, add a poached egg, wilted spinach and a side of bacon for a stunning breakfast you’ll crave again and again.
Nut butter, banana and chia seed toast
If you want to get a lot of great superfoods into your morning routine, this is the recipe for you. Take some of your favourite bread and top it with your chosen nut butter. You can use any type of nut butter you like because it will taste great no matter what! Top your nut butter with sliced banana and for a little something extra to boost your nutrients in the morning, sprinkle some whole chia seeds over the top of your toast. They will add a tiny little bit of crunch to the top of your banana and it will also give you some great nutrients such as antioxidants, magnesium and they can help you to stay hydrated for longer.
Overnight chia seed pudding
One of the best things about chia seed pudding is that you can prepare it the night before, leave it in the fridge and come morning, you will have yourself a delicious and nutritious breakfast waiting for you. All you need to do is mix two tablespoons of chia seeds to half a cup of milk of your choice. You can use simple cow’s milk or for a few extra nutrients and flavour, you can use almond milk or coconut milk. Coconut milk is a really good option because it gives extra flavour and works great for chia pudding mixed with berries.
Mix your chia seeds and milk then add a sweetener of your choice. A teaspoon of honey will do but you can use other sweeteners to help improve the flavour. Another good option is maple syrup, but just choose one that works well for your dietary requirements. Place your mix in a jar and store it in the fridge overnight (or at least 2 hours). You need to give your chia pudding time to set so our chia seeds can absorb the liquid that you’re mixing it with. When you wake up in the morning and you’re ready to eat breakfast, top your chia pudding with your favourite fruit and enjoy. You don’t need to use fresh fruit either. Having frozen fruit on hand means that you always have fruit available and this recipe makes for a great summer breakfast for when you are on the go.
You just can’t beat a simple and delicious smoothie in the morning to help wake you up. One of the best things about a fruit smoothie is that it takes less than 5 minutes to blend all of your ingredients and you can also incorporate a multivitamin powder into your smoothie to make it even more nutritious.
All you need to do is blend some fresh or frozen fruit with some Greek yoghurt and a liquid of your choice. We like to use frozen fruit such as blueberries and frozen banana mixed with coconut milk. Having said that, you can use any fruits or liquids you prefer. If you want your smoothie to be a little bit sweeter, add a teaspoon of honey to the blender and mix it in. If you’re using a flavoured multivitamin powder into your smoothie, you may get enough flavour and sweetness without needing any added sweetener. Top your smoothie with some more berries and enjoy.
